1/29/2025

Utility Update

The City of Solomon is committed to providing reliable utility services. To address the financial needs of current operations and future projects, the council has approved slight rate adjustments for sewer, storm drainage, and water utilities, along with a new water infrastructure charge to support an ongoing water infrastructure project.

Rate Adjustments
To cover anticipated utility expenses, the council unanimously approved the following rate adjustments to ensure the financial sustainability of each utility fund:

  • Sewer: Rate adjusted from $20.00 to $21.45.
  • Storm Drainage: Rate increased from $1.25 to $1.50.
  • Water: Rate adjusted from $22.00 for the first 1,000 gallons and $3.84 for each additional 1,000 gallons to $22.00 for the first 1,000 gallons and $4.00 for each additional 1,000 gallons.

New Infrastructure Project Fee
Beginning in 2025, a new $5.00 infrastructure charge will appear on residents’ water bills. This fee is earmarked for costs associated with a significant water system project that began in 2018. The project, currently nearing the end of its engineering phase, is expected to begin construction in late 2025 or early 2026.

The water infrastructure project aims to modernize the City of Solomon’s aging water utility system, including the replacement or repair of approximately 33,000 feet of water pipe, upgrades to water meters, improvements to water well infrastructure, and the addition of advanced control and monitoring equipment.

Moving Forward
The City of Solomon is committed to transparent communication about these changes. Residents are encouraged to contact City Hall with any questions or concerns regarding the new rates. Additional updates about the water project will be provided as engineering reports and construction plans are finalized.
